In a nutshell, Class Archetypes are specializations within a specific class, usually by means of replacing class features. So, you can have a rogue which may specialize in poisons while another might want to emphasize stealth.
The thing to remember with making advanced/prestige classes is that you try and make sure that the abilities of this class are truly an advancement of the base class, but generally driven in a newer direction. Again, what would make a Gunblade Specialist class so different from a Fighter (or Gunner) that could require a whole new class?
