I just thought maybe it was that whole: Freya wins the honorable duel between the two but when she goes to help him up he SURPRISE STABS her! ?

It's likely nostalgia goggles, because let's be honest, yes Kain is skilled with a spear and can jump for massive damage, but Freya has a much more varied skillset between her Dragon Techs and her support abilities, even with augments, Kain could get an advantage, but it's more likely that Freya would win.

I'm gonna have to disagree. Kain learns a few Whm abilities in "After Years", so he has some support. Neither have good MP pools, so they wouldn't be using all those support abilities (even if Freya was using White Draw, learned from Kain's Spear XD). So, it would end up being a melee fight. Kain would be using his "Double Jump" and far outdo Freya's normal Jump.
