How about. After the fall of Ultimecea and the damage on the world from the extensive time stream damage. The once Balamb Mercenaries (and General's daughter) now find themselves picking up the pieces, each helping in their own different ways. Rinoa taking up a political position Squall Zell and Selphie becoming teachers and trainers, Irvine taking up bounty hunting jobs for law enforcement, Quistis continuin her current teaching career. All that good stuff.
This could open up after the world once more is mostly how it was before 10-20 years later where the new student have come to take their training and become SeeD Mercs. The party would deal with the still remaining problems of various powers still having problems with other groups after the world was restored for the most part.
